My daughter got a Barbie Pet Spa for her birthday earlier this month.
As if the massive Barbie dreamhouse she got for Christmas thanks, Santa wasn’t enough, we needed apparently the entire Barbie Town Plaza to go along with it.
And yes my eye IS twitching just thinking about the clutter, thanks for asking.
I was taking the 872 small pieces out of the box when one particular piece stopped me in my tracks.
I seriously had to really look at it and do a double take.
It was a RING LIGHT TRIPOD.
I think I really said out loud, “Ohhhhhh you go Barbie”
Because Barbie is doing EXACTLY what she should be doing as a business owner:
CREATING CONTENT.
(and don’t you dare be like Ken and tell me your job is just ‘beach’)
Here’s the thing about Barbie that makes me wholeheartedly believe her business and her personal life are thriving:
She understands that video makes the most sense to her business to show the visual transformation and level of service she provides to her cutie little pet clients.
And because of that, she stays in her lane, and doesn’t try to show up in places that don’t make sense to her business—like a blog.
She has a SIMPLE system in place that makes content creation seamless in her day to day, rather than an additional task on her to-do list.
And Pet Spa Barbie is giving CEO, so I’d assume she outsources her content management freeing her up to focus on serving clients, creating quality content, operations and growing her business.
And even if Pet Spa Barbie isn’t in a place to invest in outsourcing her content management, she would for sure have consulted with a marketing expert to ensure she has a rock-solid strategy that makes sense for her goals and her ideal client.
Which means that Barbie doesn’t stay awake at night wondering what she’s going to post, or where her next lead is going to come from. She’s confident that she’s showing up in the right places and because of that, her best people will find her.
Here’s what I truly want you to take away from this email:
- No matter what your business is, you are a content creator.
- Being a content creator as a business owner has become so normalized that it is now a detail in the most popular line of little girl’s toys in the world.
As female entrepreneurs, I truly believe that it’s our responsibility to lead the way for our daughters, to show them what’s possible, and to use content marketing in a way that is not only professional and ethical, but most importantly, sustainable.
- At the end of the day, creating content is about so much more than creating content. It’s a means to connect with people who you may not have known or been able to serve otherwise. It allows you to invite people in to your community and to become a part of something bigger and more meaningful.
It’s like Barbie says in the movie: “I want to be a part of the people that make meaning, not the thing that is made.”
So, what’ll it be then?
You can go back to your regular life, and forget any of this ever happened.
OR
You can decide to re-think content as a way to connect with others, build community, and attract the best people that want what you offer.
There’s only one right answer, I think.
Content Marketing Tip of the Week:
‘Social Media Cleanse’ spiked by +400% on Google Trends this week. If you don’t yet have an email list, here’s your sign. Email algorithm-proofs your content, and is a direct line to your audience. Not only that, you own your email list, always, no matter what. You have control over your list—unlike your followers on social or the platform that they connect with you on which can all be gone in an instant.
Should I host a ‘Start Your Email List’ Challenge?!? Reply and let me know if you’d be there!
On My Radar:
This children’s book, written by a powerhouse, Forbes-featured systems + business coach that I had the pleasure of hanging out with this weekend. We talked business and marketing over sushi, and I am definitely her new biggest fan.
This Youtube channel that has helped me with the copywriting for my website. She has great tutorials that you could use when writing content and copy for your socials, sales pages, email funnels, and website.
This cleansing balm/moisturizer that I’ve been sluggggging all over my face in an effort to recover from the cold weather last week. Content girlies must stay ready, and there is absolutely zero space for crusty, dry skin in my life at this present moment.
ICYMI: Read last week’s newsletter here. Here’s what our readers had to say about the inaugural edition.
Would love a reply from you with feedback and your content marketing questions so I can ensure the content here is best serving you! 🫶
