DIY Intaglio Framed Art

I’ve had this DIY Intaglio Framed Art project on my to-do list since the beginning of the summer, and this weekend, we finally made it happen! I love traditional decor, and my home is decorated with different shades of coastal blues, so they were the perfect addition to my master bedroom decor. I’m so excited to share with you the process & the supplies, because this may have been one of my easiest DIY home projects to date, and is sure to be one that makes your house feel more like home.

What supplies are needed to make DIY Intaglio Framed Art?

Here’s my favorite part of this project: you really only need a few supplies.

I grabbed these frames from Michael’s after seeing Parks Party Planning share them in a reel. They look very high end and expensive, but are under $40 per frame. These frames go on sale often, and I was able to grab them for $13.99 per frame. For this project, I used the 11×14 with the 5×7 mat, but there is also a 14×18 with 8×10 mat option available as well.

I sourced pre-made intaglios from Etsy. After spending some time browsing through the options there, I ultimately landed on a four different designs from Edith and Evelyn, who had intaglios with Catholic symbolism. I decided on Blessed Mother, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mary with Children, and Jesus Blesses the Children. These would also be perfect if you are wanting more general intaglio options.

For the paper, I went to my local hobby lobby and grabbed textured cardstock because I wanted to see the paper color in person, but this cardstock set from Michael’s is comparable.

That’s it! That’s all you need to create your DIY Intaglio Framed Art. To assemble the frames, I also used a paper cutter and hot glue.

To assemble the intaglio frames, I started by cutting the textured cardstock to be slightly bigger than 5×7 to fit inside the frames. Then, I hot glued the intaglios to the cardstock, and once the glue was dry, assembled the frames. Yes, it was that easy! The hardest part about this project was deciding where we’d hang them in our home!
